We have been skating everyday, Medina and Kailan have joined the team and its been on. We've all been making big gains daily. I have discovered that in order to progress you have to get used to slamming hard regularly. My ankles have been taking a beating and my entire left hip is black and blue..... Upper Chaos - Thunder Storms

Berg and I hiked to Upper Chaos today. The forecast called for afternoon thunder storms, and it was spot on. After warming up in the meadow I got on the V10/11 Golden Rows of Flows. I stuck the first move crux (from the sidepull and undercling) and thought I had it done until my foot popped one hand move from the finish hold. Fucking gutted!

The sky was starting to rumble so we headed for Skipper Roof to wait out the storm. While it rained Berg worked out all the beta for the V11 Skipper Roof Left. The rain stopped so we hiked up to Barbed Wire Beard, Berg checked out the crux moves and was contemplating giving it a few burns from the start when we noticed another storm on the ridge. That was it, 7:30pm and we had two choices, either hunker down in a cave and wait it out for god knows how long or pack up our shit and get the fuck outta dodge. We chose the latter. Unfortunately as soon as we hit the talus field the lightning, wind and rain unleashed on us. It was too late to stop so we ran the entire way to Bear Lake parking. I must say that I havent been quite so spooked in a long while. Sprinting over an exposed talus field in pouring rain with lightning striking all around makes one feel quite vulnerable. Im glad its over!!!!!!

Berg and I ran into Jamie up at Hallet today. Webby, Alex, and Ian arrived shortly after. The day turned out to be one of the best days Ive had in RMNP yet. Good people enjoying a day at the bloks in one of the most spectacular mountain environments in the U.S. Days like today are the ones that make it all worthwhile.

Jamie and Webby both did the V12 Stranger in a Strange Land from the proper start. (yes, when you repeat an established problem you have to start on the fucking STARTING HOLDS, its a fucking "boulder problem" after all with a start and a finish) Go fucking figure!!!!

Well I've been resting for the last three days, hoping that my lat gets back to 100% and my finger pulley stops hurting. Tomorrow we are getting back on the blocks and I couldn't be more excited, just hoping that Im back to feeling good again.....

We've been living a very tranquil life lately up in the country, although its only thirty or so minutes away from Boulder it seems like another planet, and man, we could not be happier.

Berg and I headed back up to the Hallet Block today. Three problems, Keeping it Rail V11, Stranger in a Strange Land V12, and Fireball V10, have us pysched enough to keep making the somewhat brutal hike up. I got super close to finishing Fireball today and despite feeling rather lackluster Berg looked strong on Stranger. Already lookin forward to making the hike up again soon!!

The rain has come to an end and Berg is finally over being sick. We were up early today, well 9:30 anyway, in Lower Chaos by 11:45 and warming up at the Marble blok by noon. Berg gave the v12 the Centaur a few burns after warming up and looked really strong until the sugar rush from the three doughnuts he ate for breakfast wore off.

We then decided to make the hike to upper chaos where we met up with Webby. It was Webby's first time in upper so we gave him the tour. He and Berg had a quick play on the V13 Top Notch. After which we made the hike up to the Green 45 to check things out. Everyone was fuckin beat but I somehow convinced them to make the hike over to the 7c+/8a Golden Rows of Flows. ( squeaky wheel gets the grease, or some shit like that ) After reacquainting myself with all the moves I gave it a few burns from the start. ( the proper start, no bastardizing going on here ) I came really fucking close but it just wasnt meant to be. (shocked, I know) Darkness was quickly approaching so we packed it up and got the fuck out, arriving back to Bear Lake Parking at 10:15 and the Tomb by 11:30. Tomorrow we wake and do it all again. Fuck, I feel old!!!

Berg and I rolled up to Emerald again yesterday afternoon. He's been a bit ill the last few days but was hoping a little fresh mountain air would give him the energy needed for a good session. Wasn't meant to be. He packed it in after a few moves and decided to rest. A good call!
I got back on the V11 Hifi, worked out the end, gave it a few goes from the start. Felt really good except for my left foot which kept popping, Then split a tip on the savage right hand start crimp. Decided to call it a day. Gonna try another shoe next session, and hopefully get that foot to stick..

Berg and I woke up today feeling a bit haggard, we decided to hit a Blok that was fairly close to the Parking area. The Hallet boulder it was. After a quick hike up to the blok, (2hrs - three or four miles to hallets peak ), We got to work on a couple of RMNP classics. First up was the V10 Fireball. Berg sent it on the quick, and after warming up and doing all the moves I came up short, gutted!! Berg then got on the v12 Stranger in a Strange Land. He worked out all the moves, got some good links but he too came up a bit shy. Looks like we will be heading back up sometime next week to get 'em done!!!

Berg and I hit lower chaos today. It is true, theres a shitload of snow but the Blok we were headed to was totally climbable, thanks to the hard work of some other climbers. Despite some sleet and damp holds Berg managed to send the V10 The Marble. Yes!!

Last year I tried the Marble and it felt hard for me. Today I decided to try the moves again and was really pysched to make some progress and get some linkage. Il definately try to get it done on this trip.

The team arrived at the Dali boulder yesterday to find it totally empty. Not a fuckin soul, which surprised us all seeing how it was memorial day. So pysched to be at the Blok we all got at it despite temps being a little warm.

Berg looked super strong on Clear Blue Skies, after the temps cooled way down he gave it one last burn and almost put it in the satch. Soon!

No More Greener Grasses

Even tho Webby was having a shit day, he still managed to almost flash the 8A+ No More Greener Grasses, coming off the sloper at the lip. He sent it soon after despite a few heel slips and a split tip.
Phil sessioned the blok by running some laps on clear blue, no more greener grasses, the dali etc, looking strong for sure. I tried the moves on Clear Blue Skies, it definately felt hard for me but you never know....

Phil, Berg, Webby and I hiked up to the Bloks at Emerald lake yesterday. Although theres still quite a bit of snow, everything was dry and and landings were even nicer. After an afternoon of climbing we hauled ass down to Estes only to have our enthusiasm quashed by fucking Kobe Bryant sending the Suns packing. Oh well, Its gonna be easy to choose a team for the finals, Come on Celtics!!!!

This morning in the East Bay turned out to be grey, windy and rather chilly. Perfect conditions for a visit to Mortar rock. Berg and I met Jeffrey and Alex around noon. A great mid-day session followed and although nobody ticked anything new, we all got in a bunch of moves. Ive been fucking ill for the last 5 days and figured I'd get totally shut down. I was pleasantly surprised to actually feel pretty damn good. Fingers, core, and snap all checking in right about where I wanted them to be three days before heading to Colorado for an extended stay. Phil and I met up with Irish Si in San Fran yesterday morning to session at Planet Granite in the presidio. It was Phil and I's first time in the gym and I have to say it did not disappoint. Both the terrain and the setting were tops. What the Bay Area lacks in real rock it definitely makes up for in world class plastic. Planet granite has now been added into the weekly rotation!! fukin yes!!

Phil and I decided at 3pm today to make a quick trip down to Castle Rock in the Santa Cruz mountains. We arrived at 5pm and after a circuit of classic moderates we found ourselves standing under the classic 7c+ Deforestation. Phil worked out his beta and sent on the quick. I on the other hand felt like a total sac of shit and left the bloc empty handed. Normally I'd be fucking pissed, but when we hit the parking lot today and my pad felt like it weighed 70 pounds I pretty much knew what lay in store. Oh well, Its days like today that make the good days, really, really, fucking good!!!

Phil and I have been busy training lately... We started out the day warming up at the classic Indian Rock and then headed up the block to Mortar where we managed a good two hour session despite a bit of rain.
After Mortar we still had a bit left in the tank so we headed over to the Dungeon for some board action and core work........tomorrow its the gym. get in!!!! Fukin Yes!!!!

Me and Phil rolled into the Dungeon for a session this afternoon. Time was limited for both of us, so we immediately got at it. Phil got to work on some of the taped classics, and was looking strong in no time. It didnt take long before he was eyeing up the metolius project. It was an 8A on the 40 degree moonboard. A bit harder on the 43 degree board but Phil managed the FA about a year and a half ago. Now it sits on the 50 at the new space and is awaiting a first ascent. Phils got some time here in the Bay.... so we shall see......
I didnt feel great but I didnt feel like utter shite either. I did a rather large Beastmaker session this morning so wasnt expecting to be on top. That and the fact that I havent been climbing on the board all that much I knew what to expect. I'm lacking the savage snatch power that is necessary for the board. I'm confident tho.........
